Microwaving Your Child’s Food, Is the Convenience Worth the Risk?

Excerpt from Mercola.com:

Some fairly compelling evidence supporting the destructive effects of microwaves comes from a highly cited study by a Swiss food scientist named Hans Hertel. Dr. Hertel was the first scientist to study the effects of microwaved foods on the blood and physiology of human beings.

His small study, coauthored by Dr. Bernard Blanc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University Institute for Biochemistry, revealed the degenerative forces produced by microwave ovens on the foods they cooked.

Dr. Hertel concluded that microwave cooking changed the nutrients in the food, and that changes took place in the blood that could cause negative health effects.

Hertel’s conclusions were that microwaving food resulted in:

  • Increased cholesterol levels
  • Decreased numbers of leukocytes (white blood cells), which can suggest poisoning
  • Decreased numbers of red blood cells
  • Production of radiolytic compounds
  • Decreased hemoglobin levels, which could indicate anemia

Not surprisingly, Dr. Hertel’s study was met with great resistance from those with much to lose.

A gag order against Dr. Hertel was issued by a Swiss trade organization in 1992, which was later removed in 1998. But an American journalist, Tom Valentine, published the results of Hertel’s study in Search for Health in the spring of 1992[15] .

The study was not without its shortcomings. It involved only eight participants, of which Hertel was one. As compelling as his findings were, his methodology did not stand up to the scientific rigors of the field.

In spite of Hertel’s methodological shortcomings, his findings do raise concerns about what this form of radiation is doing to your food and should be taken as a launching point to larger, more robust studies in the future.

Hertel wrote:

“There are no atoms, molecules, or cells of any organic system able to withstand such a violent, destructive power for any period of time. This will happen even given the microwave oven’s low power range of milliwatts.”

And then there is the issue of biophotons…

I strongly urge you to go read this entire article on Dr. Mercola’s site. It goes over many different aspects of microwaves and their affects.

It would be much more convenient for you to ignore this information and go about your day but you know the deal… it is up to you to take responsibility for your child’s health, do your homework and make an informed decision.

I stopped using my microwave probably about ten years ago. Yes, people thought I was crazy and yes, at first you feel lost.  I actually had to stop and think about how to boil water!  How pathetic.  Now, I don’t even remember what a microwave is.  I certainly never, ever microwave any of my child’s food.

I read the very few studies that were available ten years ago and I made the decision that it was logical to believe that forcing the molecules of my food into chaos would have detrimental effects on the structure of the nutrients.  It did not make sense that you could compare microwaves to transferring of heat from a stove top and say they have the same effect.  I made the informed decision that it was not worth the risk to my health or my family’s health.

Can you live without your microwave?  Or maybe the better question is, can you live with your microwave?

Even though scientists and modernists will say there is no harm. But the fact remains it is prepared by different kind of energy, than what human beings are already used to. We grown ups are the guinea pigs for marketeers – but please keep the children away from these gadgets – till their technology is proved safe, not just by the marketeers but scientists at large. Microwave, we have been doled out only the pros – hardly anybody is aware of the cons. So play safe – cook for your child the conventional energy way.

microwave ovens can cook your food very fast, i love these ovens-:’

I agree with scott, it`s not the best idea to move to a Microwave (Convenience) Oven. The name says it all, it`s a wave – another pattern with no good effects on healthy things. Think about it: Are the Medical Instruments that scan your body healthy? No!
Also, where I live (germany) there was a huge discussion in the media that Microwaves kill all the Vitamins and what not… but that was 1980 and since then it`s the oven of death for people who care about health. Really.
I just recognise, I even lost my acne at that time, maybe because we killed our microwaves ;)

Microwaves make food taste nasty. I don’t care as much that it is less healthy or even dangerous. I just don’t like microwaved food because it doesn’t taste good.
