High Fructose Corn Syrup and Cancer

If you’ve been around my blog at all you know I am not a fan of high fructose corn syrup.  I believe the corn industry’s attempts to call HFCS the same as any other sugar are flat out lies.

Personally, I don’t need to read anything to know that this substance is not good for my child.  All I have to do is watch his reaction within minutes of eating something that contains HFCS.  I talk more about that in this post.

I came across this post in the Healthy Moms section of CafeMom – which, by the way, I love this group.  If you are interested in connecting and reading conversations between everyday moms that try to be healthy for themselves and their kids you should sign up.

Anyway, there is now a study that shows that cancerous cells thrive on HFCS.  If you know anyone battling cancer you should tell them to read labels and cut out the HFCS.  That’s probably one of the easiest things they can do for their health.  Actually, cancer eats all sugars, so a diet low in any form of sugar would be wise, but it does seem that as usual, HFCS is the worst of the worst.  And as for allowing your children to eat and drink HFCS, well it’s a battle, given the food industry has put it in everything imaginable, but the battle is worth the health of our children.

More and more companies are starting to see that they cannot win this battle and they are offering products that are HFCS – free.  Besides that, there are plenty of natural alternatives.  It just takes a little digging to find them.

You decide.

”The findings” do not say anything about “refined fructose,” it says something about all fructose. And you seem to think that “refined fructose” is high fructose corn syrup. Sorry to burst your bubble, but high fructose corn syrup contains little more fructose that regular refined sugar. Both are made of roughly equal parts of glucose and fructose. Misleading blogs like one above fear-monger and ultimately damage to the well-being of consumers. Skip the anthropomorphic jargon, and stick to the facts.

Okay, fine, all fructose, be it in table sugar or HFCS, allows cancer cells to proliferate.
Table sugar is about 50% fructose while HFCS is about 55% fructose. I don’t care if there is a 5% difference or a 0.05% difference. I need nothing more than to watch my son’s undeniable, physical reaction to a bowl of ice cream with HFCS in it compared to a bowl of ice cream with table sugar to know that “sugar” and HFCS ARE NOT THE SAME!
Do you suppose the person fighting cancer is going to say they don’t care about that measly 5% difference?
Whether it’s the amount of fructose or the way it’s processed, HFCS is a deadly and disgusting sugar. The corn and food industries that spend millions of dollars a year lying to consumers about their products are the ones damaging the well-being of consumers.
Facts are exactly what I stick to. Honest facts that have not been covered-up and manipulated by big wallets.

It is just a shame that we are so lazy to eat the way our parents did. Depending on people we don’t know to make our food, nor do we know where it is made and really whats in it. The most important thing is our own body yet we treat like and feed it “crap”. It is no one elses fault but ours. We take matters into our own hands and quit feeding this to our children, DO YOU REALLY NEED THE FDA TO TELL YOU WHAT TO EAT?

  4. Tom from Autocad Update Training says:

While more studies are needed, there is currently no scientific evidence to suggest that HFCS or other sugar sources have a unique effect (other than contributing calories) on obesity. Too many calories from any source can lead to weight gain.

  5. babieshealthnaturally says:

There will never be any scientific studies to prove HFCS is detrimental to our health. The food industry will spend millions to make sure that never happens.
Let’s just say for the sake of argument the HFCS is the same as any other sugar and all we have to do to be a healthy weight is to avoid it. Now, take a look at the food labels in your house. The food industry puts HFCS in every thing possible; bread, spaghetti sauce, crackers, applesauce, ketchup, granola bars, fruit juice……the list goes on and on and on and on. The average, unsuspecting consumer cannot avoid it even if they think they are eating healthy.

A report from the Center for Food, Nutrition and Agriculture Policy Workshop in 2005 stated, “there is currently no convincing evidence to support a link between HFCS consumption and overweight/obesity.
