I found this article very interesting in it’s suggestions as to why we have become such an obese nation.
First let’s deflate a few myths
We aren’t fat because of TV’s or Gameboys. Allow me to suggest to you that those props are a result rather than the cause obesity. If a child is highly energetic and healthy, he’s going to be bored by TV and Xboxes. He’ll want to run around outside instead.
But today’s children are less healthy and their energy levels are lower than the children of previous generations. As a result, the less energetic child finds solace in watching TV and sitting in front of a computer.
There are three undiscussed reasons for our fatness…

I had always looked at TV and video games as a cause but I can completely understand what this author is saying. Given a choice, my son is going to go outside, no doubt about it.
I really recommend that you click on the link above and read this article in it’s entirety. You may be very surprised by the reasons he proposes for our obesity epidemic.

I try to buy only organic food for my house. I never buy meat that has been pumped full of hormones. There’s another reason parents should avoid bringing these types of meat into their household. Have you notice that boys and girls are “growing up” way faster than they did in the 40′s and 50′s? They are full of growth hormones themselves from their diets. Parents beware. Don’t do this to your children. Read labels, buy organic if you have a choice, keep pop (or soda) out of your household. Take care of your family.

Americans have become considerably more obese over the past 25 years. This increase is primarily the result of consuming more calories. The increase in food consumption is itself the result of technological innovations which made it possible for food to be mass prepared far from the point of consumption, and consumed with lower time costs of preparation and cleaning. Price changes are normally beneficial, but may not be if people have self-control problems. This applies to some population.

It would be better if we parents start working towards it now itself. As obesity and overweight pose a major risk for serious diet-related chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, and certain forms of cancer. The health consequences range from increased risk of premature death, to serious chronic conditions that reduce the overall quality of life. And especial concern should be given to the increasing incidence of child obesity.

What are the other reasons? i Guess we are all living in Junk food era. Pizza and Burgers is another reason why new generation is pretty fat. As discussed, Organic foods should really help.

The thing is there is no one solid cause for obesity in our children. Some of this video gaming, watching too much TV is partly to blame. Its not invoking a huge amount of activity within our children. But diet is another huge factor, it has to be. If a child is having a bad diet such as eating lots of junk food and nothing of any real sustenance plus a very inactive lifestyle then obesity is an inevitability.

This is indeed a topic which has been ignored by many experts & professionals. Americans have become considerably more obese over the past 2 decades. As obesity and overweight pose a major risk for serious diet-related chronic diseases. You have done a great job by bringing this topic into light. I hope quality discussions follow this post. Good luck with the challenge and with your business.

the main reason which I have noticed is that the kids nowadays are not that much into physical activities rather their mental energies have increased hence they demand for food but there is no calorie burn-out

Its much easier than it ever has been to take in more calories than even an active lifestyle needs. When that happens at the same time as the video game explosion you don’t need to be Einstein to understand why we are getting fatter.

What are other reasons ? As the current time or we can say current generation more or less depends on junk food. And we all know it not only results in the form of obesity also in the form of few other major physical issues like heart problem etc.
